Self-driving or driverless cars could be coming soon to a road near you, if recent reports are to be believed.

As a result, the government is reviewing the currently motoring laws to make sure that the blame can be apportioned if accidents are caused by these vehicles.

It is said that the review into driverless cars will take three years.

The review will be conducted by the Law Commission of England and Wales and the Scottish Law Commission, to ensure that the ‘UK remains one of the best places in the world to develop, test and drive self-driving vehicles’.

The project will also consider new criminal offences to deal with and prevent hackers trying to infiltrate driverless cars, according to the Department for Transport.

In addition, the review aims to investigate the impact on other road users, including human driven cars and cyclists, and how they can be protected from risk.

If civil servants have their hands (completely) full dealing with Brexit – maybe it could be time to call in the robots to do the work?
