Mobile Phone Use
It is due to change. It used to be the law that you had to be using an interactive function to commit the offence. This normally meant being on the phone (on a call) or emailing or texting. However bouncing a call or listening to music was not ‘use’ in the eyes of the law. The court was full of cases with defendant’s pleading not guilty. To prevent the courts being more clogged up than they already are (Covid to blame – how long will this excuse be used?) the law will be been changed to simplify it for police officers (who do not often, in my experience know the law) and the public. What is the advice? Leave your phone in your boot (or trunk if you watch a lot of Netflix).
And Lastly…
For your safety watch your stopping distance. The faster you travel the longer you should leave the gap. If it is raining and icy, adapt accordingly. If you breakdown have high vis clothing in the vehicle and have a mobile with you
