Several news outlets have recently published stories suggesting that ‘divorces will go through the roof’ when lockdown is over. Equally, there are reports of many couples who were having problems before, who have now said that lockdown is the best thing that has ever happened to them and they are happier than before. Alternatively, other couples have taken the decision to move in together during the lockdown, which has led to an increase in discussions around the creation of cohabitation agreements.

From our perspective, we have not seen any real difference in enquiries, but we aim to continue to provide support and assistance in these ever-changing times.

There is no doubt that the pandemic has had some impact on relationships – whether positive or negative. In fact, we are experiencing that some of our clients are holding fire on divorce proceedings until the housing market begins to show signs of movement. Like everyone else, perhaps couples need some certainty moving forwards, or simply to weigh up the various options available to them.

We are here to discuss any matters you may have and talk through the options to have regarding separation, or even the suitability of a cohabitation agreement.

Our Family Team is continuing to work for our clients during these difficult times and we want to assure you that we are here to consider your circumstances, whatever they may be. We endeavour to provide some clarity on relationship matters during these uncertain times.
